Cairn Building and Renovations LLC was first crafted in 2013 when one of our lead builders, Ben, decided to take a leap of faith and start his own company. Aaron, a long-time friend of Ben’s and fellow lead builder, became a partner at Cairn in 2020. Their friendship has allowed Cairn to be built on a foundation of lasting trust and mutual respect, which is reflected in our builds and extensive list of satisfied clientele.
Aaron
Born in Portland, Maine, Aaron Davis grew up surrounded by the natural beauty of New England. His childhood was split between the rugged western mountains and the serene coastal communities of Casco Bay, where he developed a deep connection to the history and traditions of Maine that continue to inspire his work.
After graduating high school in the ’90s, Aaron embarked on an adventure across Europe, hiking through England, Wales, and Ireland. He spent a year in Galway, immersing himself in the culture of Western Ireland.
Upon his return to Portland, Aaron began an apprenticeship with a Dutch woodworker, where he honed his craft. This experience not only instilled an uncompromised level of quality but also pushed the boundaries of his woodworking skills, eventually setting him on a lifelong path in the field.
With a professional journey that spans timber framing, furniture/cabinet making, decades of carpentry expertise and owning multiple businesses, Aaron’s commitment to a high standard of craftsmanship, communication, and patience has made him a respected name in the building community.
Aaron currently resides in Falmouth, Maine, with Anne, his wife of 23 years and their three children Owen, Vivian and Edwin.
Ben:
Like Aaron, Ben is also a native and life-long resident of Maine. He had the unique experience of growing up in a beautiful, historic John Calvin Stevens home in the West End of Portland. Throughout his childhood, he watched and learned as his family spent time renovating and meticulously maintaining the historic home. It was during his childhood years that Ben started to fall in love with the building process, and the art of creating something beautiful that will stand the test of time. He holds a B.S in Finance and Organizational Leadership, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
Ben has been involved in the Maine construction industry for over 25 years. From having his first construction job as a framer for luxury homes in Cape Elizabeth, to being a project manager at a high-performance green building firm, he has continued to evolve in the industry by having an ever-present willingness to learn and perfect his craft as a master builder. Ben has been Passive House certified, and has deep knowledge of local 19th century architecture and modern building science.
Ben has two boys, ages 18 and 22. They live in Brunswick, ME, and enjoy exploring the ocean on their boat, travelling, hiking, snowboarding, and spending time with family.
